Originaire de la Réunion et de la Guadeloupe, Jean-Marc Hunt est né en 1975 à Strasbourg (France). Il grandit en banlieue, où il fait ses armes dans le monde du graffiti et du rap. Installé en Guadeloupe depuis quinze ans, il y inscrit une oeuvre à la facture figurative néo-expressionniste.

Peintre et plasticien, il procède par série, accumulation et détournement. Lorsqu'il s'installe en Guadeloupe, il développe une peinture figurative où l'acte de recouvrir, d'estomper, de préserver les couleurs devient caractéristique de sa peinture. Avec un trait noir usé, il trace des figures expressives et tourmentées jusqu'à la déformation des corps. Sa sculpture née d’un choix d'objets et de matériaux qu'il accumule dans un assemblage aussi esthétique que symbolique. Son travail interroge une créolisation du monde.

Régulièrement invité à des expositions collectives et à des résidences, il aime se risquer à des projets d'installation et de sculpture monumentale. Depuis 2005, il se distingue également en scénographie et commissariat d'exposition, notamment avec des projets fédérateurs en arts visuels qu'il initie.

En janvier 2015, il a été promu au rang de chevalier de l'ordre des Arts et des Lettres par le ministère de la Culture et de la Communication de la République française.

" Hunt a essayé de reconstruire le chaos mondial initial à partir de sa propre perspective colorée. Pour lui, la peinture consiste à exposer et à construire. Sa position ignore l'idéologie, la flatterie esthétique ou l'autosatisfaction. Son but est davantage de raconter que de montrer. Pour ce faire, il choisit des moyens qui peuvent être directs, drôles, émouvants et forcément authentiques "- Christian Bracy, critique d'art.

En 2019, il a participé à la 58e Biennale de Venise avec l'exposition collective Structures personnelles Identités au Palazzo Mora sous le commissariat de Marcy Gaymu. 

Jean-Marc Hunt was born in 1975 in Strasbourg (France). He grew up in the suburbs, where he got his start in the world of graffiti and rap. He has been living in Guadeloupe for the past fifteen years, where his work is neo-expressionist figurative.

Painter and visual artist, he proceeds by series, accumulation and diversion. When he settled in Guadeloupe, he developed a figurative painting where the act of covering, blurring and preserving colours became characteristic of his painting. With a worn black line, he draws expressive and tormented figures to the point of deforming the bodies. His sculpture is born from a choice of objects and materials that he accumulates in an assembly that is as aesthetic as it is symbolic. His work questions a creolisation of the world.

Regularly invited to group exhibitions and residencies, he likes to venture into installation and monumental sculpture projects. Since 2005, he has also distinguished himself in scenography and exhibition curating, notably with federative projects in the visual arts that he initiates. In January 2015, he was promoted to the rank of Chevalier de l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres by the Ministry of Culture and Communication of the French Republic.
