Né en en 1971 en Côte d’Ivoire, Jean Servais Somian est designer, ébéniste et sculpteur.

Il excelle dans l’art de transformer le bois, sa matière de prédilection. Porteur d’ancestralité et artiste très pointu en termes de finitions, il a introduit la couleur originelle au sein de son art.

Inspiré par la nature, il travaille le bois de cocotier, d’ébène ou d’amazaque. Incarnant un art hybride, fait d’influences métissées, il revisite des objets du quotidien africain tels que les anciennes pirogues transformées en sofa, des troncs de cocotiers qui deviennent des miroirs, des bibliothèques ou bassines en plastique renversées et surmontées de coussins en wax… des tabourets bassines confortables aux tissus africains de couleurs chatoyantes, autant de meubles et de sculptures aux lignes épurées : sa créativité s’exprime à travers ces pièces originales.

Jean Servais Somian multiplie les solo show et group show aux Etats-Unis, en Amérique latine, en Europe et en Afrique dans de prestigieux espaces : galeries, musées, Fondations, à Genève, Cologne, Paris, Dakar, Alger, Aachen. Son art a rejoint d’illustres collections à travers le monde : notamment Mathias & Gervane Leridon, le roi Mohammed VI du Maroc.

Born in 1971 in Ivory Coast, Jean Servais Somian is a designer, cabinetmaker and sculptor. He excels in the art of transforming wood, his favorite material. A bearer of ancestrality and an artist who is very precise in terms of finishes, he has introduced the original color into his art.

Inspired by nature, he works with coconut, ebony or amazon wood. Embodying a hybrid art, made of mixed influences, he revisits objects of the African daily life such as old dugout canoes transformed into sofa, trunks of coconut trees which become mirrors, bookcases or plastic basins turned upside down and surmounted by cushions in wax... comfortable stools basins with African fabrics of shimmering colors, as many pieces of furniture and sculptures with pure lines: his creativity expresses itself through these original pieces.

Jean Servais Somian multiplies solo and group shows in the United States, Latin America, Europe and Africa in prestigious spaces: galleries, museums, foundations, in Geneva, Cologne, Paris, Dakar, Algiers, Aachen. His art has joined illustrious collections around the world: notably Mathias & Gervane Leridon, King Mohammed VI of Morocco, among others.
