Having fun with the codes of documentaries, fashion reporting and even melancholic tales, the artist delivers work at the crossroads of genres, brilliantly mixing reality and fiction.
It was in New York, her first playground, that she starts on a self-taught, in frantic "Street Photography".
Quickly, her work is noticed and her first silver film series in black and white, exposed. Five years later, Déborah returned to Morocco. Her work is more thoughtful and like on a set, she now carefully works on her stagings. But she also appreciates improvisation and gives free rein to her models. Once the decor is set, she lets them express themselves and captures the moment and its magic with an amazed look.
As her art goes by, the artist gives us a message of tolerance and strong values highlighted by an unexpected gentleness and a certain poetry. Déborah Benzaquen is now considered as one of the best Moroccan photographers.
