TAKERU AMANO

PRESENTATION

Takeru Amano left for New York at a young age to study engraving. He is one of the most prominent artists in Tokyo today. Painter and sculptor, Takeru combines classicism and modernity, foreign influences and Japanese pop culture in his creations, whether they are paintings, sculptures, drawings or prints.

Being the son of an internationally renowned illustrator, Yoshitaka Amano, Takeru grew up in an artistic universe. However, he always tried to do something different from what his father did.

"I take the icons of classical art and give them a more modern tone"

He simplifies the components in order to identify elements which he considers to be the most important; simplicity is essential to him. He wants the audience to understand the work at a glance. He says he likes to draw only what he finds beautiful and assures his work has absolutely no political, religious or social connotations.

His references are sometimes very diverse and distant, and range from Keith Haring to Michelangelo, which is why his work is not always appreciated by everyone.

He has exhibited his works in Tokyo, Hong Kong and Paris since 2016. He has also created the lifestyle brand "Newart" and collaborated with many brands, such as Yoji Yamamoto.

It was at the Galerie Tokyoïte, located in the Marais, Paris, that he exhibited for the first time in 2016. A gallery whose primary purpose is to represent and exhibit the new generation of Japanese contemporary artists.
